Rust Stain Removal

We've had two rust rings in the bottom of our vegetable sink for about 2 months.  I have scrubbed and scrubbed at these things, and nothing got them out!  I was very annoyed at the sight of them.  My annoyance reminded me of when my parents used to get frustrated at us, kids, when we messed up something.  They would say something like "we paid good money for that, and now you've screwed it up (ruined it)."  I realize now that adult who pay for things (aka Me and the Mr) can screw things up too!  The Mr. left a soup can in the sink and water got underneath it, and it rusted.

The saying from my childhood began to ring in my head (not at the Mr, but just dang....yes, we paid good money for this newly renovated kitchen and now we got a dang rust stain in the sink). Sigh!

Well, I tell you all this, but also to let you know that this story does have a happy ending!  I was reading a blog (don't remember which one); it had a post about cheap cleaning tips.  Of course, I perked up and was ready to read!  One of the tips was about rust!

Rust removal: lemon juice and baking soda!  Create a paste on the spot, and it will come right out!  It worked!

FURminator

Graham went to the spa this weekend (aka...up the stair to the shower and was given a bath by me, got his nails clipped by the Mr. and got FURminated twice)!  If you have a dog (or cat), the FURminator will be the best $30 you'll spend for man's best friend!
We have the FURminator Classic deShedding Tool and have had it since Graham was 6 months old.  To be honest, we don't use it as much as we should, but since he is shedding like crazy with the season, it's a must!

Graham generally doesn't like to be FURminated (he doesn't hate it so don't think that).  He'd rather us just scratch his belly!  However, this weekend, he welcomed it!  He has been sleeping on the hardwood and slate flooring instead of his bed to keep cool.  His undercoat has just been too hot!  I think the FURminator took two pounds off the pup. You should have seen the mounds of hair we got off!
Check out the below video, it is NOT an exaggeration.  It really gets off that much hair, and is painless to your pet!

ATL

The Mr and I are headed to Atlanta for a mini vacation in June.  This will be our first "real" vacation since we got married over two years ago!  The Mr and I both suffer from being...well...cheap!  We never want to spend money, so the trip and vacation department of our lives has suffered!

We plan to go to a Braves game and visit the World of Coke (my favorite)!  The Mr has a client in Atlanta, and he is taking us to the Braves game.  His seats are right behind the visiting team dugout!  He mentioned to the Mr. that he can hear the players talking!  I am certainly going to be interested in eavesdropping on the players!  Crowd watching and seeing cute baseball players up-close, what could be any better?

Our trip will be a Friday though Sunday.  Tell me what you think are the best attractions, shopping areas, restaurants, and hotels.  We'd really like to stay busy and enjoy as much as we can!  I'd love to hear your ideas.

It was a SAD day at my Publix

As you know by reading, I have been a very lucky Publix shopper.  My Publix has been taking the $10 off $30 purchase World Market coupons since Thanksgiving!  These have saved us tons of money.  Every time I used them, the Mr. just shook his head in disbelieve and always said "I just don't know why they take those; they can't be making any money." He goes on to tell me how low of a mark up grocery stores have.

The latest World Market coupon I had expired on Saturday (5/15/10). On Friday night, we went by the Publix to use the high value coupons one more time.  While shopping, I looked over at the customer service desk.  There was a bold sign stating "This Publix will no longer take World Market coupons effective 6/1/10." I almost started to cry!  Just this trip alone, we saved $50 off our bill with those coupons.

Oh well, all good things must come to an end I guess.  I have really enjoyed shopping at Publix with their great coupon policy.  I hope they don't get too strict with their policy, as I might just send me back to Wal-Mart.  Ugh, I hope not!

Also, a note about the James Island Publix; they recently updated their store coupon policy as well.  They will only take competitor coupons of those stores on James Island.  That is the same policy of the Lexington Publix.

If you hear anything about more changing policies at your local Publix, please leave a comment to keep us all updated.

Today: World Lupus Day

Please take time to read the below about Lupus.  I didn't realize today was World Lupus Day until I logged on to Facebook to see my friend, Heather's, status.  Nine out of ten people diagnosed with Lupus are women.  My dear friend, Heather, and my dear friend's, Danielle,  mom have Lupus.  I never knew the pain and struggles that comes along with this disease until meeting these two people in grad school.  Please take time today to read the symptoms and think of those who deal and overcome this disease daily.

Heather!

"Every day, more than 5 million people worldwide struggle with the often debilitating health consequences of lupus, a potentially fatal autoimmune disease capable of damaging virtually any part of the body, including the skin, heart, lungs, kidneys, and brain.
Nine out of ten people with lupus are women. Eighty percent of new lupus cases are diagnosed among women ages 15 to 44, striking at the peak of their reproductive and career potential. A merciless predator, lupus permanently disables many young women.
In an autoimmune disorder like lupus, the immune system is not able to tell the difference between foreign substances (called antigens) and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed against "self." These antibodies -- called "auto-antibodies" (auto means 'self') –- attack the body's own cells and cause inflammation, pain, and damage in various parts of the body.
Inflammation is considered the primary feature of lupus. Inflammation, which in Latin means "set on fire," is characterized by pain, heat, redness, swelling and loss of function, either on the inside or on the outside of the body (or both). Uncontrolled inflammation can permanently damage vital organs.
In its most severe form, lupus can cause disfiguring rashes and scarring, multiple miscarriages, kidney, heart and lung failure, impaired neurological function, strokes, heart attacks and death.
Lupus also complicates and limits the treatment of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Many people with lupus are unable to maintain employment or attend school because of extended lupus-related absences and hospitalizations. A majority of those affected must live with debilitating pain and profound fatigue which greatly affects their quality of life.
For some, memory and mental processing may be impaired, rendering simple tasks, such as recalling names or balancing a checkbook, as significant challenges. There is always the ever-present threat of a flare -- the sudden onset of more serious symptoms.
Despite its enormous public health implications, lupus remains a dangerously under-recognized and under-appreciated women's health issue."

Do the Tervis Tumble!

I love Tervis Tumbles.  We received our first pair from my friend, M-M, for a wedding shower gift.  Ever since then, we've been hooked.  We've got South Carolina Flags, Purdue (of course), The Masters, and so on!  The Mr. really doesn't like drinking out of anything else!
This past year, I purchased these as gifts for our siblings.  I think they were a huge hit!  We got each family their college (USC, The Citadel, and Western Kentucky University).

These make wonderful gifts or a great addition to your cupboard!  Tervis.com sent me a coupon for buy two get one 50% off (on individual tumblers) with code SPECIAL.  Plus, they are offering free shipping on orders of $75 or more.  This is valid through tervis.com only through May 31, 2010.

FACHE

As of May 1st, I finally reached Fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives.  Having letters behind your name in healthcare is a HUGE deal.  As I have said here, you can't go to even an orientation at the hospital or conference without seeing a nurse sign their name with "RN, BSN, MSN, etc" behind it, or any other profession in healthcare put their own letters behind their name on everything.

I guess you work so hard for it you don't want to not use it!  For my credential, I went through 3 interview by current Fellows, took a huge exam that I studied 6 months for, had to get 3 recommendation letters sent on my behalf from current Fellows, earned 40 hours of continuing education credits (CEUs), and sent in a huge application (oh, can't for get all the application and exam fees in there too).  After all that was done, I had to wait until I had 5 years of management experience for it to go in effect.

I wish I could say I can sit back and relax now, but some of my CEUs are on the verge of expiring!  It looks like Meredith MHA, FACHE will be signing up for some conferences ASAP!

WOOOHOO, I'm finally a big girl in healthcare!

Momma Confession...

Momma actually got 3 pairs of shoes during her shopping adventure this past weekend.

I got a pair of Jessica Simpson brown suede flats that were on clearance.  I've always thought of suede as a winter fabric, but I know times have changed on some of the old traditions (ex: never wear white before Easter and never after Labor Day).

So, my question to you is can I wear these shoes in the Spring and Summer or should a pack them away until the Fall?

This is a close resembles the ones purchased, but mine have a leather bow instead of the buckle.

Momma's got a new pair of shoes!

This weekend Belk had their Charity Sale.  My mom and I got up at 4:15AM to wait in line to be one of the first 100 customers to receive a gift card upon entering.  One lucky winner got $1,000 gift card, and there were several $100 gift cards as well (we ended up with a $5 gift card).  We got there at 5:20 AM.  There were about 15-20 in front of us.  Everyone was really chippery that early, so it made it fun to wait.

Once in the store, we hit up the shoe department.  Since I am pregnant, I really am not shopping for anything but cardigans and shoes.  I found the most fabulous shoes.  Bone/Nude is a hard color to find.  It is very basic, but no store seems to carry it.  I saw PIPM post Finding the Perfect Nude Shoe. After reading her post, I knew there were nude shoe options, but those were well out of my price range (Ferragamo, Cole Hann, etc)!!

I found a Nine West that I absolutely love (the price was great too....20% off with an additional $5 off)!  I really hope my feet don't grow too much with the pregnancy, or I'll be cramming my foot into these next season as well!

I also got these too!!
Born-B.O.C (Born Concept)
I've been looking for a gold flat that I could wear to work.  Most of the gold flats I've seen are pretty darn gold!  I wanted the color to not have so much yellow in it.  This is what I selected!
